Evaluation and Therapy Services for Adults in Maui, HI
Speech, Language, Occupational, and Cognitive Evaluations
Our evaluations focus on understanding how cognitive, neurological, physical motor planning, or communication changes are impacting work, relationships, and independence with daily living activities.
During the evaluation, your therapist will listen to your concerns, review relevant medical history, and complete standardized assessments to get a clear picture of strengths and areas of need. Your family’s insights and goals will also be factored into this process.
Once the evaluation is complete, we’ll share our findings, recommend next steps, and work together to create a personalized plan for therapy.
Swallowing Evaluations
Our swallowing evaluations are led by experienced speech-language pathologists who specialize in dysphagia. When appropriate, a FEES (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) may be completed which uses a small camera placed gently through the nose to observe how food and liquid move down the throat. Throughout the evaluation, we’ll pay attention to how the tongue and throat muscles work together and whether anything enters the airway.
Based on what we observe, we’ll make recommendations that may include diet guidance, exercises, or simple strategies to make swallowing safer and easier.
Our Adult Rehabilitation Specialties
At Maui Speech and Swallow, we take a collaborative approach to therapy— working closely with local hospitals and other outpatient physicians on the island of Maui.

Feel like your voice is your voice
Improve coordination between breathing and speaking
Correct problems related to voice misuse, abuse, overuse, or other medical conditions such as vocal paralysis and paresis
Avoid surgical voice intervention
After a thorough in-person evaluation, voice therapy may be provided at our clinic or online from the comfort of your home.
Head & Neck Cancer Habilitation & Rehabilitation
Our experienced speech therapists support head and neck cancer patients before, during, and after cancer treatment. Our sessions include education, specialized speech and swallowing exercises, and counseling support to help you:
Continue to eat, drink, and speak normally
Understand your own voice and swallow anatomy
Prepare for any changes that may occur during the course of your radiation or chemotherapy journey
Learn swallow and voice exercises
Comfortably eat and drink during mealtimes
In order to track changes over time, your therapist may complete an instrumental swallow assessment before and after cancer treatment.
